Domestic bliss - the growth in outsourcing

Domestic task outsourcing is booming in response to the increasing pressures on personal time. The burden placed upon the working parent, particularly if the parent is female, continues.

As Australians work longer hours and become increasingly time poor, they have been obliged to outsource many household and domestic chores. Gardening and home maintenance is a key area now being outsourced, along with home cleaning, laundering, car-cleaning, dog grooming and many similar tasks.

Household cleaning was the first major area to be outsourced and grew in popularity in the late 1970s and early 1980s. General cleaning contractors had their beginnings in Australia in the 1930s. Although this industry has been in existence for over 70 years, it did not begin to develop to any great extent until the late 1950s. DIAL-AN-ANGEL® Pty Limited was created in 1967 to fulfil a need in the home market identified by Dena Blackman as she struggled to manage three active children under the age of six.

What sets DIAL-AN-ANGEL apart is that all workers are thoroughly security screened prior to being accepted for registration as Angels. They maintain their registration with the Agency by adhering to a written Code of Conduct.

DIAL-AN-ANGEL is able to provide housekeeping services, child care, baby sitting, Eldercare-at-home®, home-based nursing, in-home entertaining and special events as well as corporate functions. It is the only national agency specialising in the provision of home and family care.

Two other specific services which fall within the scope of the domestic department are:

• Gardening Services (non-tradesman) - Angels will undertake all types of gardening including weeding, planting, lawn mowing, re-potting, raking leaves, pruning shrubs and hedges and rubbish removal when requested.
• Handyman Services (non-tradesman) - Handyman services include minor carpentry repairs, painting, replacing tap washers and/or light globes, repairs such as assembling shelves and furniture (self assembly only), re-hanging or re-aligning doors, repairing fences, window sashes, clearing gutters, general tidying of sheds and/or garages. Outside window cleaning can be arranged.

These services are available on a casual, regular or long-term basis.

DIAL AN ANGEL provides Angels for home & garden maintenance, pet care, caretaking, child care & babysitting, care by nannies, aged care, in-home nursing, home & corporate functions.
