School holiday cover

Having a plan for the holidays and a reliable backup provides peace of mind for parents of school-aged children. Remember that we provide emergency childcare throughout the school holidays, babysitters in hotels and serviced apartments and childcarers to keep your children safe and entertained during the holidays. If it all gets too much juggling kids and work why not grab some respite and book one of our reliable housecleaners. You won’t even know they are there but you will definitely know they have been there when you walk into a sparkling house! Just call us on 1300 721 111 or make an enquiry here.

Fight Dementia Campaign
The 2011/12 Federal Budget was a severe disappointment to people with dementia, their families and their carers, with no new funding to combat the dementia epidemic. Alzheimer’s Australia wants the 2012/13 Federal Budget to both commit to aged care reform and to recognise that this requires a focus on dementia and additional funding over the next 5 years.

Alzheimer’s Australia is seeking your help by:
1. Signing up as Dementia Champion on the campaign website www.fightdementia.org.au
2. Joining the Fight Dementia March at Parliament House in Canberra on 13 October 2011. You can register to march at www.fightdementia.org.au or by calling Alzheimer’s Australia on (02) 6254 4233.

More details about the campaign and the proposals of Alzheimer’s Australia can be found at www.fightdementia.org.au

Top Tips for Senior Travellers
With more Australians travelling as they get older, it pays to prepare for a healthy and safe trip. You should consider the following before taking off:
• See your doctor for a check-up and discuss your fitness for the trip you are planning.
• See your dentist and optometrist.
• Pack a spare pair of glasses, any medications you need and a small medical kit.
• Organise travel health insurance with pre-existing illness cover if needed. Make sure it covers emergency evacuation. • Make sure routine immunisations are up-to-date and get vaccinated against influenza and pneumonia.
• Consider your back; use luggage with built in wheels.
• Take clothes and hats to suit the climate.
• If concerned about your health, consider taking an organised holiday. We have plenty of top tips for Seniors at our website here

Spring 2011

Welcome
Spring is here and you can feel it in the air. It’s the right time to review goals as we power into the end of the year. It’s also a great time to clear out the clutter in our minds and in our homes. There is nothing like a spring clean and a fresh start!

Since we last spoke, I was approached by Australian Broadcasting Corporation’s (ABC) ‘Australia Talks’ program to discuss outsourcing of domestic and household chores on 3 August 2011. This turned into quite a heated discussion and you can read the comments here. I would like to thank the ‘Australia Talks’ Radio program for allowing me take part in the show and sharing my views and opinions.

This month’s attention is being drawn to the 269,000 Australians living with dementia and in particular the 1.2 million Australians caring or supporting someone with dementia. It is an area of the community that we deal with every day and DIAL-AN-ANGEL® is committed to raising awareness of this disease and the toll it takes on everyone. I do hope that you will take the time to read the article on the Fight Dementia Campaign and do something to support this campaign.

We have some great positions for Angels in the Childcare and Care departments of nearly all our offices. You can work the times and days that suit you! Anyone who has retired from the work force with energy and enthusiasm to assist others should consider applying to become an Angel®. Please check our website regularly for current vacancies as we are always looking for new Angels.

Remember to get in early and book your Angel to assist with all your party help needs and requirements for the upcoming Jewish New Year and other holy days. We’ve had many enquiries and bookings coming through, so to avoid disappointment, please book as soon as possible.

Until next time,
