Celebrations

November is a BIG month. The Canberra office celebrated 15 years (1996) in the ACT. There were times when we thought we would not make it but thanks to our loyal clients and amazing Angels DIAL-AN-ANGEL (Canberra) is still operating successfully.

A very special acknowledgement of Norma Woodbridge (manager of the Gosford office) who celebrated 24 years with DIAL-AN-ANGEL on 4th November. It’s not often these days that such milestones are achieved. Norma retired from DIAL-AN-ANGEL on her anniversary in 2011. Over the years, she has worked in three of our offices (City/Edgecliff, Lindfield and the Central Coast) and not only managed small and large teams in those locations but managed the permanent placements department and assisted with the set up and operations of the Nannies International arm of DIAL-AN-ANGEL. We wish her a well-earned break and an enjoyable retirement.

We also provide emergency childcare for those unexpected times where you need to find a babysitter at the last minute or perhaps you need to do the Christmas Shopping without the prying eyes of the kids! After Hours GP helpline
On 1 July 2011, the Australian Government established a new afterhours GP helpline. If you have an urgent health concern and don’t know what to do, call the afterhours GP helpline on 1800 022 222 – for free health information and assistance from a registered nurse, or medical advice from a GP if you need it.

Available through Healthdirect Australia, the afterhours GP helpline is open when your GP may not be – at nights, on weekends and on public holidays – 365 days a year. If you don’t know what to do, the afterhours GP helpline will give you the reassurance and practical advice you need. Keep this number handy with the holidays coming up!

Top Tips for the warmer weather
With summer fast approaching it is essential to be aware that the signs of dehydration or heat exhaustion are less pronounced in seniors. This is due to the effects of aging, certain medications and some chronic conditions. Speak with a doctor about how these circumstances could change the body's ability to manage heat.

Pets can be sunburned too, and your pet may require sunscreen on his or her nose and ear tips. Pets with light-coloured noses or light-coloured fur on their ears are particularly vulnerable to sunburn and skin cancer.

Wrap celery in aluminum foil when putting in the refrigerator and it will keep for weeks. Read more great tips here

November 2011

Welcome
You have probably noticed a groundswell in the media and our communities calling for a serious overhaul of the childcare systems in Australia. DIAL-AN-ANGEL is committed to making in-home care available to all Australians either through a tax deduction or as a rebate. Working with the Make Care Fair Alliance our target is to gather 20,000 signatures on their online petition and to personally present the petition to the Minister for Women, Kate Ellis and Minister for Families, Jenny Macklin in Canberra. So far, we have almost 2,000 signatures, but...we need your help! Please sign the petition at www.makecarefair.com.au and then send this email to 10 of your friends, family, colleagues and contacts and ask them to sign the petition so we can demand that the government address this important issue.

As a minimum, Make Care Fair is asking the Government to quickly address the needs of working families by providing them with:
1. the same level of support for in-home care as for long day care and family day care centres;
2. an increase in the level of financial support for working parents with childcare needs - not more reductions like the one we've just seen; and
3. Simplified processes to help parents find quality childcare and receive childcare benefits, including exploration of potential benefits of tax deductibility of childcare.

We are asking on behalf of our children, so that all families can have access to the care that they need.

Just a reminder you can redeem your Qantas Frequent Flyer points for DIAL-AN-ANGEL vouchers here. You can choose from handyman/gardener services, daytime childcare, domestic housekeeping services or party help. It’s just like having your own mini holiday without leaving home.

Until next time,
