February is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month Each year in February Ovarian Cancer Australia runs a national Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month campaign to highlight the symptoms of ovarian cancer and to raise funds for their programs. Teal is the international colour for ovarian cancer. On Teal Ribbon Day, the last Wednesday in February, they invite all Australians to purchase and wear a Teal Ribbon from Ovarian Cancer Australia or your nearest Chemmart Pharmacy, Spotlight, or Napoleon Perdis concept store to show your support for raising awareness of ovarian cancer. You can learn more, attend an event or donate at www.ovariancancer.net.au.
ANZ improves benefits for working mums As of 1st January 2011, the new Parental Leave Scheme is in full swing, entitling working parents to 18 weeks paid parental leave. This scheme has opened up a lot of debate and put pressure on organisations to offer more parental benefits to women and working parents. ANZ Australia has introduced a new, return to work incentive – a $4,000 childcare allowance to parents upon their return to work, on top of their existing 12 week paid parental leave at full pay with no qualifying period. If your organization does not offer similar benefits, visit the DIAL-AN-ANGEL website to see how we can help with your regular or emergency childcare & babysitting needs! How do you think organizations could improve their parental leave programs? Let us know via our Discussion Board on Facebook!
Before and after school care help? If you are struggling with work commitments and your children’s afternoon activities then we can provide before and after school carers. These carers are in high demand so make sure you contact us soon. And remember, if your childcare arrangements fall through, we can also provide emergency as well as regular care. Contact us today!
March 8th is International Women's Day International Women's Day is a global day celebrating the economic, political and social achievements of women past, present and future. The word 'Suffragette' is derived from the word "suffrage" meaning the right to vote. International Women's Day honours the work of the Suffragettes, celebrates women's success, and reminds of inequities still to be redressed. So make a difference, think globally and act locally! Do your bit to ensure that the future for girls is bright, equal, safe and rewarding. February 2011

Welcome February is already upon us, children are back to school, and days continue to fly past us. It seems that the year has just started and we have so many things to plan for and around – Valentines’ Day, St Patrick’s Day, Seniors Week, International Women’s Day, Earth Hour – the list just goes on. Remember, if you are juggling too many balls at once we are here to help you!
We are getting ready to celebrate 44 years of providing home and family care services to Australians. Dena Blackman started DIAL-AN-ANGEL in March 1967 on a $200 bank loan whilst caring for her three young children. To put Dena’s achievement into perspective, it was only one year after the removal of the marriage bar in the Commonwealth Public Service that required all married women retire from the workforce.
DIAL-AN-ANGEL has always been a family affair. Four generations of Dena's family have been involved in the business over more than four decades, including Dena’s mother, three daughters and one granddaughter. It was with great delight that I invited my daughter to join us in the business this month as she commences her university studies. Another granddaughter has been added to the ranks!
We look forward to International Women’s Day on March 8th with great pride and fondness saluting all women, paid and unpaid, for all their countless contributions. Make a special effort to spend some time that day with a woman you appreciate. Enjoy your day!
Until next time,
Danielle Robertson CEO DIAL-AN-ANGEL Pty Limited |
