DIAL-AN-ANGEL celebrates 20 Angelic years in Melbourne

With a $200 bank loan, Dena founded the fledgling DIAL-AN-ANGEL office on Sydney’s North Shore. DIAL-AN-ANGEL grew quickly from a one person, one-telephone office to 12 offices nationwide. The Melbourne office was opened on 2nd September 1985 on Chester Street in Oakleigh with Renate Triffett and Lei Thomson as joint partners. DIAL-AN-ANGEL located to its current premises at St Kilda Rd, St Kilda in October 1999 with Lei Thomson still at the helm.

When Lei opened the doors she had no Angels and no clients. She put her first advertisement in The Age for 40 angels and at the end of the first month she had 16 clients but only 20 Angels.

To this day DIAL-AN-ANGEL is always seeking to register suitably qualified and caring Angels. Lei believes the work is perfect for mothers to schedule around their family’s commitments. “We need to register new Angels to cope with the growing demand. Applicants can be mums with grown children or active grandparents who enjoy driving, working in the garden and around the home. Angels may elect to work any three hours or more - on days and at times which suit them. It’s even their choice whether they work during school vacations,” says Lei.

From relatively unsophisticated beginnings, DIAL-AN-ANGEL has developed an enviable professional reputation as the leader in home and family care across Australia. Lei believes that the key to the success of DIAL-AN-ANGEL is its long standing reputation for integrity and professional performance. “Rigid reference checking procedures have been developed and refined over the years. No applicant is referred for work until all security checks are completed,” says Lei.

Lei acknowledges that the business relies on the many loyal clients over the years and the Angels who are prepared to give 100%. “I would just like to say a big Thank You to everyone who has contributed to our first 20 years,” adds Lei
